Cabo Card Game

Cabo is a popular trick-taking card game that is easy to learn and fun to play. Here’s a brief overview of the game and we can play a round together.

Number of Players: 2-6

Deck: Standard deck of 52 cards without jokers.

Objective: To be the first player to get rid of all your cards.

How to Play:

  1. The deck is shuffled and 5-7 cards are dealt to each player, depending on the number of players.
  2. The remaining cards are placed face down in a draw pile.
  3. The top card of the draw pile is turned over and placed beside it, face up, to start the discard pile.
  4. The player to the left of the dealer goes first, and then play moves clockwise.
  5. To play a card, you must match the rank or suit of the top card on the discard pile.
  6. If you don’t have a playable card, you must draw a card from the draw pile.
  7. Certain cards have special abilities:
    • Aces: Can be played on any suit.
    • 8s: Can be played on any suit, and the player who plays the 8 gets to change the suit to any suit they choose.
  8. The game continues until one player has played all their cards. That player is the winner.

Let’s play a round! I’ll deal the cards and we can start playing. Since we are playing a text-based game, I’ll use the following notation to represent the cards:

  • A for Ace
  • K for King
  • Q for Queen
  • J for Jack
  • T for 10
  • 9 for 9
  • 8 for 8
  • 7 for 7
  • 6 for 6
  • 5 for 5
  • 4 for 4
  • 3 for 3
  • 2 for 2
  • H for Hearts
  • D for Diamonds
  • C for Clubs
  • S for Spades

You have been dealt the following 5 cards:

  • 3H
  • 5D
  • 8C
  • KC
  • 2S

The top card on the discard pile is:

  • 4H

It’s your turn. What card would you like to play? Remember, you must match the rank or suit of the top card on the discard pile. Type the card you’d like to play, and I’ll let you know if it’s a valid move.
